Immigration police at the Shahjalal International Airport barred journalist Shafik Rehman from going abroad on Thursday.
Tarique Islam Chayan, a close relative of the journalist, said Shafik Rehman was scheduled to go to London by an aircraft of ‘Turkey Airlines’ around 7 am.
When he went to the boarding bridge of the airport immigration police obstructed him to leave the country, he said.
On April 16 last year, detectives arrested Shafik Rehman, former editor of the Bangla daily Jaijaidin, from his Eskaton Garden residence in the city.
The senior journalist in his early 80s was shown arrested in a criminal conspiracy case filed with Paltan Police Station on August 3, 2015 in connection with the attempt to abduct and kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
