Staff Reporter :The Holy Shab-e-Barat (the Night of Fate) will be observed across the country tonight (Tuesday). The Muslims will seek blessings of Allah through prayers, reciting the Holy Quran and arranging the doa-mahfil the whole night or as much as possible.The devotees will also visit the graveyards of their relatives and pray to Allah for the salvation of their souls.According to the Quran, on the Night of Fate, Allah decrees the fate of every human being for the next one year. Shab-e-Barat also means the night of forgiveness. On this exalted night, Muslims pray to Allah to take preparation for the holy month of Ramadan and say: O My Lord! Forgive me and remit my sins. The government has announced public holiday tomorrow (Wednesday) on this occasionTraditional foods like handmade bread of rice, beef and halua are the food items of this day. Part thereof are distributed among the poor and neighbours according to one’s ability. Many Muslims will fast on this occasion. The Islamic Foundation and other religious organizations have chalked out daylong programmes, including discussion meetings, hamd, naat and interpretation of the Quran. Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, and private television channels and radio stations will air special programmes. The daily newspapers will publish special pages highlighting the significance of Shab-e-Barat.
