The sudden tragic road accident last year, in which her husband lost his legs, turned her life upside down. It left her at a complete loss and she could not think what to go to run the four member family.
Life became harder as she was scrambling to find a work. Opportunities so little ; local authorities could not provide any support to her and finding a way to make a having was increasingly difficult
But thanks to a training course, initiated by Upazila Parishad (EZP) and supported by Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) in sewing and tailoring at Maizbari Union Parishad complex, in Kazipur Upazila under Sirajganj district she now dreams of a new, better life. “I don’t think will be poor anymore. My kids will not go hungry and they can continue their school.” said a confident Manjuara.
She was one of the 50 poor women of Kazipur Upazila Parishad who have just received a new lease of life after completing an intensive 14 day training in sewing and tailoring.
The training was supported by Upazila Fiscal Facility (UFF) grants provided by Upazila Governance Project (UZGP), Local Governmel1l Division (LGD), an initiative to help local poor women in Kazipur Upazila make a living.
The scheme titled “Training on Sewing and Tailoring”, co-financing by a local NOO, aimed at enhancing the livelihood skills of women particularly the destitute ones. to improve living standards of the local communities and empower women.
Supported by United Nations Development Progmmme (UNDP), the United Nations Capital Development Fund (lJNCDF), European Union (EU) and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the Upazila Governance Project CUZGP) aims to strengthen institutional, managerial and technical capacities of the Upazila Parishads (UZPs) to ensure better public service delivery and thereby alleviate poverty.
The five-‘year’ project is being implemented by the Local Government Division (LGD’:, Ministry of Local Government Rural Development, Rural Development and Cooperative (LGRD &C).
The project. under its Upazila Fiscal Facility (UFF) support, has already provided Tk. 50 lakh (approximate) 62,500 USD) to Kazipur Upazila Parishad to two phases in 2013. With the grants, the Upazila Parishad has taken a total of 16 schemes mainly gargeting to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) at Upazila level.
