Sewerage master plan to make river water pollution-free, JS told

Dhaka WASA has already formulated a sewerage master plan to keep water of the rivers surrounding the capital pollution free, said Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD&C) Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain.
“As per sewerage treatment plan, the construction work of ‘Daserkandi sewerage treatment plant is now going on,” State Minister Mashiur Rahman Ranga told the house on Sunday on behalf of LGRD minister Khondker Mosharraf while replying to a question tabled by treasury bench lawmaker Mohammad Nazrul Islam Babu of Narayanganj-2 here.
In addition to this, he said with the financial assistance from the World Bank, the government has also taken a programme titled “Dhaka Sanitation Improvement Project”. It would help reconstruction and enhancing the existing capacity of Pagla sewerage plant, he informed the house adding that now the project is waiting for final approval.
Even the sewerage management network and sewerage treatment plant design have also been formulated in the areas of Uttara and Mirpur, said the minister. “Initiative has been taken to undertake feasibility study for construction of Rayer Bazar sewerage treatment plant,” he added.
A study on ‘Preparation of Action Plan for Control of Pollution of Peripheral Rivers of Dhaka City’ is now underway by the Institute of Water Modeling (IWM), the minister informed the house.
