Severe gas destructions in the supply line of the Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Ltd in the port city have been causing immense sufferings to the consumers.
Only 100 m cubic meter gas was supplied in the port city against the total demandsof 500m CM on Sunday.
The consumers of irrespective of categories suffered a lot due to lack of gas supply in last few days. Lack of supply from national grid ,KGDCL failed to supply gas to five power plants and two fertilizer factories for the last few days.
A sources of KGDCL told The New Nation that the gas scarcity arisen due to cleaning & renovation works in gas transmission line from Bakrabad to Chattogram .
On the other hand, Gas Tranmission Company Ltd told that the situation of gas destructions will become normal by today.
KGDCL sources said there are 5.80 lakh gas consumers in the port including industrial and commercial consumers with desired demands of about 500m CM per day.
Sources quoting the statistics of Petrobangla said on Thursday last KGDCL gets only 111.9m CM gas and moreover Chattogram is facing gas crisis for long time. Sources said to meet the g rowing demands of gas in the port city, KGDCL has arranged to supply LNG through piple line by importing LNG from abroad.
And hoped LNG gas will be supplied from Maheshkhali terminal by next one month, sources added.
Following the severe scarcity in gas supply for the last few days, gas supply to five power plants in Chattogram and two giant fertilizers factories have been suspended .
While contacted KGDCL sources said the cleaning(piging) works in 175 kilometer long pipe line from Bakhrabad to Chattogra m now undergoing and is expected to be completed immediately. Gas consumers of Bakalia Gulzer Begum and Hajera Sarwar told this correspondent that they faced severe miseries in completing cooking due to load shedding in gas .
A 3-star hotel manager of Jubilee Road in Chittagong told the New Nation that for the last few days they facing gas crisis caused hampering their catering business to maximum extemts.
Conscious circles observe if the gas filling stations are stopped permanently, the gas crisis in domestic and commercial establishments will be resolved to maximum extents. Besides , Common people irrespecrive of caste and creed also expressed their opinions against the use of CNG by the private car owners.
