Students agitation at Monija Rahman school: Several hundred candidates’ SSC exams uncertain

SSC examinations of about 580 students of Monija Rahman Girls School and college in old Dhaka’s Gandaria have become uncertain as their registrations have not been completed in due time, students said.
They alleged that registrations of 280 candidates of 2022 and 300 of 2023’s SSC examinations have not been completed due to the negligence of the school authority.
In these circumstances, students of the institute and their guardians staged agitation on Sunday in front of the National Press club demanding the candidates’ registration and the institution’s Principal’s resignation.
The students formed human chain and staged demonstration to meet their demands.
They also jammed the street in front of the National Press Club, while the vehicular movement had been stopped for some time.
Students involved in the agitation alleged that female members of police
swooped on them and about five of the girls were injured in the incident.
Among those at least two injured students have been taken to hospitals, they said.
Meanwhile, Lutfun Nahar, the Principal of the institute came to National Press club to convince the agitators that their registrations have been completed, but the students did not believe that and confined her.
Then police took care of the principal’s security.
Agitator students said that they would not be assured by their principal’s assurance and repeatedly demanded her resignation.
Sinthia Aktar Mahi, one of the agitators told the journalists that at least five of their fellow students were injured when female members of police suddenly attacked them in the afternoon.
She said that two of them were taken to the hospitals for treatment.
Nusrat Ansary was one of them admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Yousra Zerin Khan, another protester, told the media that they would continue their movements until their demands are not met.
When contacted, Sheikh Abul Bashar, Inspector of Shahbagh police station told the media that the agitators started scuffled with police while the Principal went there.
In this incident, few of them might be injured, the Inspector said.
