Serial rapist’ Shamim arrested in Capital

A team of Rapid Action Battalion has arrested Md Shamim Hossain Mridha, an alleged serial rapist from the capital’s Uttara area on Thursday night.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, chief of RAB’s legal and media wing, said this in a press briefing at its media centre in the capital’s Karwanbazar on Friday.
According to RAB officials, Shamim is a serial rapist. On June 11, a schoolgirl from Bhandaria Upazila was raped forcibly.
On January 26, 2015, an SSC examinee of Bhandaria Upazila was attacked in the middle of the night for raping. On November 1, 2017, another madrasa student of the same upazila was raped on her way home from the madrasa, threatening to kill her.
On October 10, 2021, another madrasa student was also sexually abused. To get remedy, cases were filed at Bhandaria police station in Pirojpur district.
Shamim works as a CNG and private car driver in Babu Bazar and Gabtali areas of Dhaka. At the age of 16, he entered the criminal world through various terrorist activities. He used to go hiding time to time in Kishoreganj, Barisal and Khulna areas after committing other criminal activities including torture and rape of women in different areas. He did not stay at one place for long to avoid arrest, RAB officials added.
Besides, there are more than 10 cases filed against him in different police stations for rape, attempted murder and other crimes including drugs. Shamim has already been jailed 4-5 times on different terms in rape and other cases. There are also 6 arrest warrants against him.
