Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a serial rapist during a raid in city’s Jatrabari area on Saturday morning.
Arrestee Sagar Mijhi (24) killed a woman in a hotel room at Cox’s Bazar couple of days ago as the victim tried to resist rape, Mahfuzur Rahman, commanding officer of Rab-10, said.
“He is a serial rapist,” he told a press briefing at Rab Media Centre on Saturday afternoon.
A team of Rab arrested Sagar around 11:45am on Saturday along with a mobile phone and Tk 15,000 in cash, he said.
The Rab official said Sagar rented a room at the Cox’s Bazar hotel on September 18, saying his wife will come soon. Two days later, he took the 26-year-old victim in that room and tried to rape her.
As the victim tried to resist him, Sagar hit her head against the wall and later hit her head again with a glass, he said. The next morning, police broke open the door and recovered her body as he fled.
