Tk 6 lakh snatched from six persons

At least Tk six lakh was snatched from six persons in separate incidence from the capital’s Kawran Bazar, Tejturipara, Jatrabari, and Gandaria areas on Saturday, police said.
In Kawran Bazar, muggers stabbed a vegetable trader and allegedly snatched Tk 1.48 lakh from him early in the morning.
The victim Md Ripon was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), police said.
Tejgaon Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazharul Islam said vegetable trader Ripon was on his way to Kawran Bazar by a pick-up van when three to four muggers stabbed him in the morning.
“Hearing Rubel’s scream when the pick-up van was passing Tejgaon police station, members of police chased the van and managed to catch one of the muggers,” said the OC.
But, the muggers pushed Ripon off the van at Kawran Bazar area and fled with the vehicle.
Detained mugger Rubel is being interrogated in the police custody, the police official said.
Meanwhile, another gang of muggers snatched Tk 3 lakh from a businessman
by picking him up after introducing themselves as detectives near Kawranbazr Rail crossing at noon. The victim was identified as Monir Hossain, 25, said DMCH camp police’s ASI Sentu Chandra Das.
Monir went to Kawranbaar after receiving the money from a BRAC Bank’s Gulshan brnch, he aid.
The snatchers also released him in Hatirjheel area and managed to flee from the spot instantly, the ASI added.
Monir had been admitted to DMCH and he had a cement shop at Kuril Biswa Road.
On the other hand, another gang of muggers snatched Tk 1 lakh 15 thousand from a schoolteacher by shooting at the victim near Tejturipara in the early hours of the day, said Sentu Chandra Das.
At Jatrabari, a gang of muggers snatched Tk 45 thousand from a Jhut trader by stabbing him at Mridhabari in the early hours of the day when he was coming back from his workplace of Tongi. The victim was identified as Kamal Hossain, 35.
At gandaria, muggers stabbed a student and allegedly snatched Tk five thousand from him at Gandaria early in the morning. The victim was identified as Milon Hosssin, 23, student of third year of Sociology Department of Jogannath University, police said.
