Economic Reporter :
Stressing the importance of special allocation in national budget for combating child trafficking in the country, speakers at a programme called for the allocation because it would check the trafficking and provide supports to the victims.
Due to the trafficking, children, mainly from the poor families, are used as sexual slavery and forced labour for earning money through the illegal activity, they said.
Terming the trafficking as the worst form of human rights violation, they called upon the government to make a provision for the allocation. The allocation would boost the anti-trafficking activities, including rehabilitation of the victims, they said.
They hoped that the budgetary allocation would also raise awareness among people and facilitate the formation of a network for prevention of the trafficking.
They came up with the remarks while taking part in a community awareness workshop on ‘prevention of child trafficking’ at No. 29 ward councilor’s office at Ring Road at Mohammadpur in the capital on Monday.
Chaired by Syed Monirul Haque, senior teacher of Haji Chan Mia Secondary School at Mohammadpur, Mujibur Rahman, secretary of No. 29 ward of Dhaka North City Corporation, Sharifullah Riaz, project coordinator of PCTSCN project, among others, spoke on the occasion.
A total of 40 participants, including local guardians, students and NGO representatives, took part in the programme.
Community Participation and Development (CPD), a consortium member of Prevention of Child Trafficking through Strengthening Community and Networking (PCTSCN), organized the programme.
