Seminar on Shakespeare at BUBT

A seminar on ‘Shakespeare: Our Contemporary’ was held at the permanent campus of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) at Mirpur in the city recently.
Noted academician and writer Prof Dr Syed Manzoorul Islam of English Department of Dhaka University delivered keynote speech at the seminar organized by department of English of the university to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare and his legacy.
While delivering speech, Prof Manzoorul Islam said that Shakespeare has become part of our everyday conversation for his human qualities and popularity. People are interested about Shakespeare because of his ideas of universal approach which we have applied in our daily life, he said. BUBT Trustee Board Chairman AFM Sarwar Kamal was present as Guest of Honour while Trustee Board member Prof Dr Shafique Ahmed Siddique and university proctor Prof Mian Lutfar Rahman were present as special guests at the seminar.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof Syed Anwarul Huq, English department chairman Dr Md. Mohoshin Reza, assistant professors Mushfeka Deeba and Amanee Khandker and lecturers Farhana Bhuiya, Dilruba and Jakiya Sultana of the department also spoke on the occasion. Later, Shakespeare’s famous play The Merchant of Venice was staged by the students of the English department.
Faculty members, students, officials and a large number of journalists from the print, electronic and online media were present on the occasion.
