Seminar on renewable energy begins in DU

A three-day National Seminar and Exhibition on Renewable Energy began yesterday on Dhaka University campus focusing on “Implementation of Renewable Energy Policy”.
Dr. Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs’ Adviser to the Prime Minister, inaugurated the seminar and exhibition as the chief guest at the Energy Park and Khandaker Mokarram Bhaban on Dhaka University campus.
Institute of Energy, Dhaka University and Bangladesh Solar Energy Society jointly organised the events.
Speaking on the occasion, Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said the government has taken a master plan to diversify the renewable energy and, in this regard they are discussing with the neighbouring countries.
He said the government has already passed law to establish Energy Commission, which will assist all the researches on energy in the country.
The energy adviser requested the scientists of Dhaka University to put in their best efforts for inventing solar cooker and present that to the nation as gift.
“Human being could invent any thing using their knowledge and solar cooker will be the best gift for the nation, as it will change the country’s cooking system massively,” he added.
Professor Dr M Sekul Islam, Dean of Engineering and Technology Faculty of Dhaka University, Professor Dr Mohammad Ibrahim, President of Bangladesh Solar Energy Society and its secretary Professor Dr Saiful Huq spoke on the occasion. Dhaka University Vice- Chancellor Professor Dr A A M S Arefin Siddique chaired the event.
Dr Arefin Siddique said use of solar energy should be increased as the country gets sun light over 300 days.
He emphasised the use of energy sources whatever the country has.
A total of 18 companies are taking part in the exhibition showcasing their products.
Two technical sessions and two seminars would be held during the exhibition period.
