The Department of English, ASA University, Bangladesh (ASAUB) has organized a seminar on “Feminism and Literature” recently. Prof Dr Dalem Chandra Barman, Vice Chancellor of the university was the chief guest while Prof Abu Daud Hasan, Dean Faulty of Arts and Social Science, and Chairman, Department of English, ASAUB, Chaired the seminar.
Prof Dr Niaz Zaman Advisor, Department of English, Independent University Bangladesh and Prof Firdous Azim, Chairperson of BRAC University delivered respective presentations on “Aspects of Feminism” and ” Feminist Theory and Women’s writing: Reading the English Novel” in two consecutive sessions.
Prof Muinuddin Khan Advisor of ASAUB, Khalequezzaman, Registrar along with other high officials of ASAUB were also present. Teachers and students of the English Department were also in attendance.
Prof Ferdous Azim spoke about the gradual proliferation of women’s writing throughout history, which is a direct outcome of women’s gradual empowerment. She also said that feminism and writing are interwoven and opens up to a new world for women.
Prof Niaz Zaman highlighted the comparative statistics of the relative under valuation of women’s writing in literary history. She concluded her paper by focusing the importance of “Gynocriticism” a female framework to analyze, create and further development of women’s writings.
