Department of Journalism & Mass Communication (JMC) of Daffodil International University (DIU) and Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) jointly organized a seminar on ‘Fake News Phenomenon’ on Wednesday at 71 Milonayoton of the university. Prof Dr Gitiara Nasreen, Professor, Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, University of Dhaka, Qurratul Ain Tahmina, Special News Editor, Daily Prothom Alo, Syed Ishtiaque Reza, Editor in Chief, G TV and Sarabangla.net, Aditya Shahin, Senior News Editor, Channel I were present at the seminar as the discussant. Presided over by Saleem Ahmed, Associate Professor and Head, Department of JMC, DIU the seminar also addressed by Prof Dr Sakhawat Ali Khan, Adviser of Department of Department of JMC, DIU, Prof AMM Hamidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Social Science, DIU, Omar Mostafiz, Representative of FNF, Aftab Hossain, Lecturer, JMC, DIU, Md. Rashedul Islam, Lecturer of JMC, DIU.
Prof Dr Gitiara Nasreen said that previously journalists faced challenge not of not to published wrong news. But at present journalist are facing challenges to protect fake news. Due to social media, this fake news phenomenon is spreading rapidly.
Dr Gitiara Nasreen also said that all of us are now citizen journalists because of social media. We have to increase media literacy among citizen journalists. Most of the developed countries has been opened media literacy course from school level. We should follow them.
