With a view to discussing the future Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) planning of Bangladesh and its alignment with The Sendai Framework, a seminar titled “The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030) and the Future of Disaster Management in Bangladesh” was held on Monday at the Bijoy Auditorium of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). Department of Disaster and Human Security Management of BUP organized the seminar.
BUP VC Major General Md Emdad-Ul-Bari, ndc, psc, te was the chief guest while BUP Pro-VC Prof M Abul Kashem Mozumder, PhD was present as special guest in the seminar. Director, International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) and Senior Fellow at the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), Dr Saleemul Huq was present as keynote speaker. Chairman, Dept of Disaster and Human Security Management Lt Col Abu Ayub Md Hassan, psc moderated the seminar.
Among others, BUP high officials, teachers, students and high officials and students from BUP affiliated institutions were also present in the seminar. The keynote speaker and other key personnel’s discussed about the different aspects of DRR in Bangladesh and future policy requirements for sustainable development in the seminar. Aiming for reducing disaster risk- the Sendai Framework was adopted in 2015, in Sendai, Japan. The Framework is a 15-year agreement from 2015 to 2030; consisting of 7 targets and 4 priorities. The Sendai Framework is designed specifically to achieve the substantial reduction of disaster risk, losses of lives and livelihoods.
