Staff Reporter :
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said that there is no possibility to delay holding of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) election for Coronavirus.
The situation does not show to change the polls schedule, he added.
The CEC made the remarks while talking with the CCC polls related officials, law enforcers, returning officers, Executive Magistrate in Chattogram Circuit House on Saturday.
He said, we discussed over coronavirus and tried

to get opinion. Moreover, the government did not declare the present situation epidemic. “So, I think there is no need to change polls date”.
Huda further said, offices in the City Corporation area will remain on duty for half-day and also the vehicle movement will be allowed in limited scale.
The CEC said, we have taken some extra initiative for CCC polls. The office will remain open on polls day because from March 26 to March 29 will be public holiday.
“If on Election Day the offices remain shut, the citizens will leave the city. They won’t feel interested to the election. So, on that day offices will open for half-day, and then remain close,” he said.
Clarifying why the EC allowed the vehicle movement, Huda said we were in a tight position in other elections regarding the movement of vehicles. Private buses and bus-minibuses were kept off the road. It has been observed that the voters cannot go to the designated polling stations from far-flung areas in absence of traffic.
Because of this difficulty, he said, we have decided that a limited number of vehicles will operate.
Chittagong Divisional Commissioner ABM Azad presided over the meeting while Police Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Elias Hossain and Returning Officer Muhammad Hasanuzzaman were present.
