The 71st birth anniversary of the late legendary dramatist and theoretician Selim Al Deen was celebrated on Tuesday. He was born on this day in 1949. Different organisations arranged online programmes to celebrate the occasion.
Jahangirnagar University’s Department of Drama and Dramatics placed floral wreaths on Selim Al-Deen’s grave at 10:00am on JU campus. The department also arranged an online programme on its Facebook page at 7:00pm yesterday. Theatre troupe Dhaka Theatre observed the day by placing floral wreaths on Al-Deen’s grave in the morning and arranged a three-day online programme. Recordings of Al Deen’s plays were streamed live on its Facebook page at 7:00pm. Theatre troupe Swapnadal organised an online discussion on the life and works of Selim Al-Deen and a webinar titled Hargaj: Ek Bhanga Bhuboner Dhusor Monchorup where Swapnadal member Ali Hasan presented the key-note paper at 8:00pm. Thespians Ataur Rahman, Nasiruddin Yousuff Bachchu, Afsar Ahmed along with celebrated Indian theatre researcher Angshuman Bhowmick participated in the event. Swapnadal chief secretary Zahid Repon was present as the chief coordinator at the programme,
which was streamed on his Facebook wall.
Besides, the troupe also streamed Selim Al Deen’s acclaimed play Hargaj on Facebook at 8:00pm.
