BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on Sunday demanded judicial inquiry into the death of the party’s Dhaka city unit leader and former Ward Commissioner Musleh Uddin Ahmed.
She made the demand in a condolence message issued to express shock at the death of the former Commissioner of Ward No 8 of undivided Dhaka City
Corporation. Khaleda Zia prayed for salvation of his departed soul. She also expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. In the condolence message, she recalled the contribution of the leader to the BNP.
Musleh Uddin Ahmed, also former BNP general secretary of Motijheel, died in police custody on Saturday night. He was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), after he fell sick in Motijheel Police Station at about 10:00 PM. The doctors of the DMCH declared him dead.
Motijheel police arrested Musleh Uddin in political violence cases on July 1.
Earlier, BNP leader and former lawmaker Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, who was serving life sentence for his involvement in BDR mutiny, died of cardiac arrest in Rajshahi Central Jail on May 3.
Khaleda Zia said that the death of Muslesh Uddin is mysterious like Pintu. “We had asked to investigate the death of Musleh Uddin. We demand a judicial probe in this regard, as he died in the police custody like Pintu,” she said.
The BNP Chief alleged that the government arrested the BNP leader and tortured him as part of its ongoing harassment and torture on the leaders and workers of the BNP and other opposition parties.
