BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said their party wants to join the next general election mainly to restore people’s voting rights.
“BNP has been on a movement to restore people’s voting rights, not to go to power. We want to join the next polls, but it has to be held under a neutral government,” he said.
Fakhrul came up with the comment while speaking at a triennial council of Lalmonirhat district unit BNP
He alleged that the government has annihilated democracy, good governance and justice from the country to hang onto power. “The common people are being deprived of justice while the entire country has been turned into a jail.”
Referring to Chief Justice (CJ) Surendra Kumar Sinha’s recent comment that the government wants to control the Supreme Court (SC), just like it is controlling the lower courts of the country, the BNP leader said the CJ’s remark has manifested how the government destroyed the rule of law.
He said people have neither security nor any human rights now in the country as it is under the rule of one person. “The government is not working for people’s welfare as the ruling party men are indulging in corruption, plundering, killing and various repressive acts.”
