A sedition case was filed against BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman, now living in London, and detained ETV chairman Abdus Salam with Tejgaon Police Station in the capital on Thursday.Sub-inspector Borhan Uddin, operation officer of the police station, lodged the First Information Report (FIR) in this regard, said assistant commissioner (Tejgaon Zone) of DMP M Afruzul Huq Tutul.According to the FIR, Tarique and Salam in connivance with each other disseminated false, concocted and baseless statements that amount to threat to the sovereignty of the state. Both were charged with section 124A of the Penal Code. The Section 124A says: “Whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by signs, or by visible representation, or otherwise, brings or attempts to bring into hatred or contempt, or excites or attempts to excite disaffection towards, the government established by law shall be punished with imprisonment for life or any shorter term, to which fine may be added, or with imprisonment which may extend to three years, to which fine may be added, or with fine.”
