A Rajshahi court issued an arrest warrant against BNP leader Mizanur Rahman Minu on Wednesday. Minu, an adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, and three other party leaders were accused in a sedition case filed for “making a hint that another assassination like in 1975 could occur”.
The Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam passed the order after receiving a police report in the case, said Nurul Islam Sarker Aslam, a lawyer of the plaintiff.
Mojaharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station, submitted the report before the court, saying that police got evidence that the BNP leader has committed the offenses.
The three other accused in the case are: BNP Organising Secretary Ruhul Kuddus Talukhder Dulu, Rajshahi city BNP President Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, and General Secretary Shafiqul Haque Milon, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent.
The court also set April 26 for the next date of hearing in the case.
On March 16, Mosabbir Islam, law affairs secretary of Rajshahi city Awami League, filed the case with the court. On the same day, the court ordered police to submit an investigation report by March 31.
In the case, the plaintiff claimed that Minu, in his speech at BNP’s divisional rally in Rajshahi on March 2, criticised Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, threatened Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with death, and hinted that another 1975 could occur.
