Secy Ranjit hurt in road mishap

Cultural Affairs Secretary Ranjit Kumar Biswas was critically injured in a road accident in Natore on Friday.
The accident took place when he was returning to Dhaka from Rajshahi after attending a programme in Rajshahi.
The Ministry’s Public Relations Officer Kutubuddin said that he was moved to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital on emergency basis for surgery. The Secretary’s bodyguard and driver were also injured.
After surgery, Ranjit Biswas was brought to Dhaka by night, Kutubuddin said.
Eyewitnesses said that a Rajshahi-bound truck and the Secretary’s car were
collided at Razzak Intersection in Natore district. The Secretary and two others were injured.
Dr Nazmul Hossain of RMCH said the Cultural Affairs Secretary received injuries in his head and different parts of his body. At first he was taken to a local clinic and from there he was shifted to RMCH around 4.45pm, he said.
His driver Din Mohammad and bodyguard Rafiqul Islam were also undergoing treatment there, he said.
Police Superintendent of Natore Bashu Deb Banik told The New Nation that the accident took place at Razzak Intersection in Bonpara under Baraigram Upazila in Natore district around 3pm.
Police seized the truck from the spot, while its driver and his assistant managed to flee the scene, the SP said.
