Security tightened for Asia Cup, T20 World Cup Cricket

The authorities have beefed up security arrangements in the capital, especially in and around all cricket venues and residential hotels housing the players, for the coming Asia Cup Cricket and T20 World Cup Cricket tournaments.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed told this while inspecting a security rehearsal at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), Mirpur here on Sunday morning.
“All necessary steps were taken to ensure security of players, supporters and viewers,” he said adding that members of law enforcement agencies and plainclothes detectives with modern equipment will perform their duties.
Replying to a query, the commissioner said additional security steps have been taken for brining the players from Hazrat Shahjalal ® International Airport to residential hotels and playgrounds as well.
“Ensuring security for this huge sporting arrangement will be the main challenge of the DMP at this moment,” Benazir added.
Answering to another question from newsmen, he said, “Our law enforcement agencies will keep vigil so that no international criminals or militants can enter the country during the tournaments.
The DMP commissioner expressed his satisfaction over the rehearsal of bomb disposal unit and security personnel.
