Joynal Abedin Khan :Law enforcers have taken security measures across the country, including the capital, to maintain law and order as the Supreme Court Appellate Division on Wednesday upheld the death sentences of BNP Standing Committee member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed.They mainly increased the security measures in and around the Dhaka Central Jail, other district jails, the Parliament Bhaban, the Secretariat, the Bangabhaban, the Ganabhaban, the Supreme Court, the International Crimes Tribunal and the Bangabandhu National Stadium.Members of law enforcement agencies were mainly activated at airports, Gulshan’s diplomatic zones, Dhanmondi, Nazimuddin Road and Hair Road. “Law enforcers have been asked to remain in touch with the eminent personalities who have been targetted by criminals,” said Muntasirul Islam, a Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).The check posts are generally set up near important intersections or on busy roads, avoiding most of these is easy if someone uses lanes and by-lenes.When asked about this, DC Muntasirul said, “I agree that we have not been able to cover every corner. This is mainly because we do not have enough manpower. But these check posts are also a part of our ‘visible policing’ strategy.” “We are also making preparations to bring every lanes and alleys under the security blanket if needed the noted.”Meanwhile, security measures were strengthened in the Moulvibazar village home of Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha ahead of the verdict on the review pleas of war criminals Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojahid and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.The CJ’s younger brother Nilmoni Sinha said, “Four police personnel have been deployed to ensure our safety. Besides, the district administration is keeping contact with us.”Meanwhile, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members were seen to patrol streets across the country to thwart any untoward incident centering the verdict.”The number of BGB patrol teams will be increased in the city and other districts,” said Mohsin Reza, Public Realtion Officer, (PRO) of the BGB.Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Wednesday afternoon said that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed across the country to help police in view of maintaining law and order after the Appellate Division upholds the death sentences of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed.While talking to reporters in the Secretariat on Wednesday, the Home Minister said law enforcement agencies have been asked to remain alert to check any untoward incident.Claiming that the law and order situation is good, Asaduzzaman said necessary measures have already been taken to tackle subversive acts.The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected petitions of Salauddin and Mojaheed seeking review of its orders that upheld their death sentences for committing crimes against humanity during the country’s War of Liberation in 1971.Earlier, after concluding the hearing in this regard, the four-member Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha fixed the date on Wednesday.
