The Khagrachhari administration has banned a demonstration called to protest irregularities in teacher appointments in local government schools.
All forms of public gathering are restricted from 8am to 6pm in the municipality, said Acting Deputy Commissioner ATM Kawser Hossain, citing Section 144.
Police will deal with those who broke the order invoked to maintain peace in the area, he said.
Citizens’ anti-corruption group Shushom Unnayan O Durniti Pratirodh Committee called the protest over allegations of corruption in the appointment of primary school teachers. The protesters had announced they would surround the district administration offices during the demonstration on Sunday.
The organisation’s committee broke the restriction to hold its protest.
The group gathered in the Sadar Upazila on Sunday morning and held a protest rally at 10:30am. They announced a day-long general strike for Monday and a plan to block the road on September 21.
