The local administration imposed a ban on public gathering in the Spinning Mills area of Sadarpur Upazila early Friday.
The move came after tension rose between supporters of two sons of late Khazababa Faridpuri over establishing supremacy. “It (the ban) is not applicable for the mass people,” clarified Executive Magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Purobi Goldar.
The ban, effective from 1am, will remain in force until further notice, Goldar said.
Syed Lutfor Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadarpur Police Station, said tension rose when followers Mahfuzul Haque Mozaddedi prohibited supporters of Mostafa Amir Foysal from setting up a helipad inside the spinning mill. The situation is now under control, the OC said. Shahidul Islam Shahin filed a case on behalf of Mahfuzul Haque and requested police to take necessary steps. Additional police personnel have been deployed in the Bishwa Zaker Manjil area.
