A new trust fund titled, ‘Scientist Maqsudul Alam Memorial Trust Fund’ has been established at microbiology department of Dhaka University (DU).
Late scientist Maqsudul Alam’s sister Niru Shamsunnahar and brother former Dean of the Faculty of Science Professor M Yousuf Ali Molla handed over a cheque of Taka 15 lakh to DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin at the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Thursday to set up this trust fund, a DU press release said.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Dean of the Biological Sciences Faculty Prof Dr M Imdadul Hoque, Microbiology Department Chairperson Dr Sabita Rezwana Rahman and Acting Registrar Md Enamuzzaman, among others, were present on the occasion.
Every year, a teacher of biological science faculty will be awarded ‘Scientist Maqsudul Alam Gold Medal’ from the trust fund for his/her research paper published in the particular year.
Besides, two meritorious students, who will secure first and second position in Bachelor of Science (BS) final examination from the microbiology department, will be awarded the scholarship every year. Thanking the donors of the trust fund, DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman said the gold medal and the scholarship will inspire the teachers and the students for their studies.
