Joynal Abedin Khan :A 14-year-old schoolgirl was gang-raped by three youths in Shaheednagar of Lalbagh in the capital on Tuesday night.The victim is a Class IX student and she resides in the Darussalam area of Mirpur, said Paritosh Chandra, Inspector (Investigation) of Lalbagh Police Station.Meanwhile, police detained two persons including Sujan, the vittim’s boy friend, for interrogation, in connection with the incident, the police official said. Saikat Islam Rana, 23, was also detained from Shaheed Nagar area for the same reason, he said. Sujan, a bus driver of Janjabil Paribahan on the Babubazar-Gabtoli route, took the girl to one of his uncle’s house at Kamrangirchar on Tuesday evening.On way to Mirpur, Sujan stopped at Shaheed Nagar to drink water from a nearby shop. At that time, the girl was abducted by three unidentified youths.After drinking water, Sujan returned to the girl but did not find. Later, he informed the matter to Lalbagh Police Station.Police in a drive, rescued the girl from the roof top of a five-storey under-construction building in the area around 4:45am, the police official said.The girl said that the three youths raped her on the roof top of the building. The victim was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for medical checkup.Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalbagh Police Station said that police detained Rana and Sujan from the area for questioning.The OC said that police would be confirmed after receiving the medical report from DMCH.”Sujon claimed that he met her (victim) four years ago in his bus and since then they had developed an affair, the OC said. Drives are underway to arrest the culprits, he said.Inspector Mozammel Hoque at the DMCH Police Camp said that the victim is undergoing treatment there.Meanwhile, a four-year girl was rescued from a garden when an youth attempted to rape her on Tuesday evening.The incident took place at an Adibashi village in Narail Sadar upazila, said Delwar Hossain, OC of Kotwali Police Station.”The local people rushed to the spot by hearing the screaming of the victim and rescued her. They also caught the youth red-handed and handed over him to the local police,” the police official said. The miscreant has been identified as Proshanta Sardar alias Kanta, 12, son of Nemai Sardar, inhabitant of Narail Municipality.The OC said, “Kanta took the girl in his lap to a jackfruit garden from their residence and tried to rape it forcibly. The victim girl cried out and the local people rushed the garden and saved her from the miscreant. They handed Kanta to the police after a good lesson in the name of beating.”A case was filed in this connection and Police are investigating the matter, he said. A local court sent him to jail on Wednesday afternoon, the OC said.
