The body of a schoolgirl was recovered from Khan Mohona Railway Gate area in Patiya upazila on Sunday.
The victim’s throat had been slit.
They also found an injured youth with his throat slit beside the victim’s body.
The deceased was identified as Rima Akhtar, 14, an eighth-grader of Haidgaon High School. The injured, Masud, 25, was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in a critical condition, said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shilbrato Barua of CMCH Police Outpost.
A knife was also recovered from the spot, said Additional Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin Khan of Chattogram District Police.
After primary investigation police suspected that Masud might have tried to commit suicide after killing the girl, said the police official. “The girl was in school uniform, books and a school bag were recovered from the scene,” said OC Mostafiz Bhuiyan of Chittagong GRP police station.
Rima did not attend school on Saturday, said Randhir Debnath, headmaster of Haidgaon High School.
“I personally spoke to her mother, who told me that Rima left home for school with her friends in the morning.”
Rima told her friends that she would not go to school as “she had some personal problems”, Randhir Debnath added quoting her classmates.
No case was lodged till filing of this report. The body was sent to CMC morgue for autopsy.
