A schoolgirl committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan in her room at Lebugati village in Manirampur Upazila of Jashore district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Puja Das, 14, a ninth-grader of Kalarhat High School and daughter of Pradeep Das, Police said.
Quoting family members, police said Puja’s parents scolded her as she had failed to secure the marks they desired in the yearly examination.
Later, her body was found hanging from the ceiling, in her house at night.
Upon receiving information, police recovered the body and sent it to a local hospital morgue for autopsy, Manirampur Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Altaf Hossain said.
An unnatural death case was filed with the Manirampur Police Sstation.
