A schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide in the city on Friday afternoon after the death of her friend in a road accident. The deceased were identified as Tamanna Ferdous Keya, daughter of Abdul Mannan of Dasmari in the city, and her friend Turja, son of Jaher Hossain Suja, former Rajshahi City Corporation councillor from ward No 29. Both the victims were Class-X students of Dasmari High School, police said.
Officer-in-Charge of Motihar Police Station Humayan Kabir said Turja suffered serious injuries after a trolley hit his motorcycle at around 12:45pm while returning home from Binodpur.
He was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries at around 2:30pm.
As the news of Turja’s death spread fast, his friend Keya hanged herself from the ceiling of her room with a scarf, locals said, adding that they were in love with each other.
Family members rescued the girl and took her to the RMCH where she died after some time.
