A schoolboy drowned in the Atrai River at Bhushirbandar in Chirirbandar upazila on Saturday.
The deceased was identified Sirazul Islam, 10, a class III student of Ambition Residential School and College, and son of Abu Taher of Nashratpur village in the upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Chirirbandar Police Station Haresul Islam said Sirajul along with his two friends went to the river near his house around 12 pm for taking bath.
At one stage, Sirajul was washed away into the river as he did not know how to swim.
On information, locals rushed in and recovered the body from the river after a hot search, added the OC.
