Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) launched a VAT online help desk on Sunday to provide assistances to the businessmen.
M Shafiqul Islam, commissioner of Sylhet Customs, Excise & VAT Commissionerate, inaugurated the service.
SCCI president Khandakar Sipar Ahmed presided over the inauguration programme.
Shafiqul Islam said the government has initiated the move so that the businessmen can pay their VAT using the online process staying at home.
It will help them (businessmen) and create transparency in the process, he added.
Niamul Islam, joint commissioner of Sylhet Customs, Exciseand VAT Commissionerate; M Amdad Hossain, vice-president of Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its director Masud Ahmed Choudhury also spoke at the programme among others.
