Staff Reporter :
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Thursday demanded formulation of a guideline for the recruitment of judges of both the Appellate Division and the High Court (HC) division of the Supreme Court.
“There is no second option than formulating a guideline for appointment of SC judges in order to ensure transparency and neutrality,” SCBA President Advocate
Zainul Abedin said at a press conference organised by the SCBA in its auditorium.
Advocate Zainul further said, “It is heard that the government is taking initiative to appoint new judges at the Appellate and HC divisions. But the government does not say anything about formulating guideline despite SCBA’s repeated request.”
In this situation, the SCBA demands formulation of the guideline in line with the Article 95(2) of the Constitution and the HC judgement for appointing SC judges in order to establish rule of law and ensure the independence of the judiciary, he said.
SCBA Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan said that they would enforce movement against the government’s plan to appoint SC judges on political consideration.
