The leaders of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Sunday demanded resignation of the Election Commission as they failed to take appropriate action during the polls of Khulna and Gazipur City Corporations.
Bar President Advocate Zainul Abedin and Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan also demanded the resignation of the commission before the upcoming three city corporation elections.
They said this in a press conference organized at the SCBA auditorium in the city. Advocate Zainul Abedin said, the members of the law enforcing agencies are keeping the BNP activists and leaders on the run. Only the government supporters are allowed to stay in the houses. Mass arresting is going on against the BNP activists in the cities. The nation is frustrated as the arrest is happening with the direct help of the government when the Election Commission is failing in its job.
Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan said, the Election Commission has failed to take appropriate action during the polls of Khulna and Gazipur City Corporation. The SCBA is demanding the resignation of the Election Commission as they failed to take appropriate action and play the neutral role to give plain even field to all candidates.
