The annual election of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for its 14 executive posts including President and Secretary will be held on March 13 and 14.
SCBA’s incumbent Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan on Wednesday issued a notification in this regard on behalf of the SCBA.
The schedule was finalized in a Special General Meeting of the SCBA held on February 5, 2019, and approved by the incumbent executive committee on February 12, 2019, said the notification.
As per the schedule, candidates may file their nomination papers from
February 20, 2019, to March 3, 2019.
A candidate may withdraw his/her candidateship by March 6. The final list of candidates would be issued on March 7. And election will be held on March 13 and 14.
Vote casting will take place from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with a one-hour lunch break on the election days.
A seven-member Election Sub-Committee has been formed led by Advocate A Y Mashiuzzaman, former Secretary of the SCBA, to conduct the election.
A total of 8088 lawyers have registered their names as voters for the SCBA annual election, the notification also read.
SCBA sources said the main contest of the election will take place between ruling Awami League-backed Bangladesh Sammilita Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad (BSASP) and BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (BJAOP).
The new executive committee will lead the SCBA for the session of 2019-2010.
