Two years back on July 07, 2016, a group of suspected Islamic extremists armed with guns and homemade bombs attacked police guarding country’s largest Eid Jamaat gathering, killing two police constables, a women and one terrorist.
The attack began at 8.40 am when a group of seven men attacked the outer police cordon an hour before the final prayers to begin.
The attack was carried out by domestic militants attempting to topple the government and establish strict Islamic law in the country.
Former D.G of Islamic Foundation, Noted Islamic Thinker Maulana Farid Uddin Fasud, the cleric who has led Eid prayer at historic Sholiak for the last 11 years, fears that he was a target of the attackers. Moulana Masud is a longestanding critic of terrorism and Islamic extremism.
