SCB demands withdrawal of Surcharge imposed by AFDG

Shippers’ Council of Bangladesh (SCB) is very much concerned and perturbed to know that the Asian Feeder Discussion Group (AFDG) has served a notice with regarding imposition of Emergency Cost Recovery Surcharges (ECRS) of a minimum rate of $150 per TEU (Laden) and $75 per TEU (Empty) to all SOC Shipments from Singapore to Chittagong and Vice Versa with effect from 1st July last, said a press release.
SCB Chairman Md. Rezaul Karim stated that AFDG are increasing ocean freight by imposing “Emergency Cost Recovery Surcharges (ECRS)”, which we understand is against the normal business ethics, and it particularly affecting our countries export in the highly competitive world export market, add to the transportation cost and also actual cost of export. It is need to be mentioned that countries export cargo mainly handled by the Feeder Vessels operators.
For the sake of countries export Shippers’ Council urge the Asian Feeder Discussion Group (AFDG) to withdraw the Emergency Cost Recovery Surcharge imposed by them.
