UNB, Dhaka :
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday upheld the High Court order to free the ancestral home of legendary actress Suchitra Sen in Pabna town from illegal occupation and set up an archive of her memorabilia therein.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Justice SK Sinha, passed the order after hearing an appeal filed by Ayub Hossain Khan on behalf of the Imam Gazzali Institute, which is currently operating a school in Suchitra Sen’s house.
Additional attorney
general Murad Reza argued for the government at the hearing, while the AZ Mohammad Ali stood for the petitioner.
Sen’s ancestral homestead was temporarily leased out by the government back in 1987. The leasees set up the Imam Gazzali Institute at the homestead.
On June 22, 2009, the government issued a notice to the Institute to free the homestead.
