Cocaine seizure: SC stays bail of 2 accused

The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday stayed for six weeks a High Court order that had granted bail to two accused in a case filed in connection with the seizure of liquid cocaine at Chittagong port. Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Iman Ali passed the order following a petition filed by the state.
The accused are Mondal Group commercial executive Atiqur Rahman and Mostafa Kamal.
Advocate SM Monir stood for the accused,
while Additional Attorney General Murad Reza represented the state. On December 6, the High Court granted bail for six months to the duo in connection with the case.
Liquid cocaine was detected in a consignment of 107 drums of Bolivian sunflower oil which the customs intelligence officials seized at Chittagong Port on June 6 last. Laboratory tests on the liquid samples from the consignment detected cocaine in two of the drums each having 185 kg of oil which was imported in the name of Bolivian sunflower oil.
Sub-inspector of Bandar Police Station Osman Goni filed a case against Nur Mohammad, owner of ‘Khan Jahan Ali Limited’, and Prime Hatchery manager Golam Mostafa Sohel under the Narcotics Control Act on June 27. On November 19, detectives pressed charges against eight people with a Chittagong court in connection with the seizure of liquid cocaine at the port.
