UNB, Dhaka :
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Saturday claimed that there was no fertiliser crisis in the country in the last six years due to the steps taken by the Awami League government.
“Once farmers used to run after fertilizers…even they had to sacrifice their lives for fertiliser. But in the last six years fertiliser is running after the farmers,” he said.
Amu said this while addressing the 20th Annual General Meeting of Bangladesh Fertiliser Association held at Officer’s Club in the city.
Mentioning that it is the government’s duty to ensure the food security of people, the minister said the government is giving importance to provide subsidy to the agriculture sector for the sake of food security.
Amu said the government is giving subsidy of Tk 24, Tk 18, Tk 25 per kg in urea, TSP, DAP and MOP fertilisers respectively. The subsidy will continue in the national interest.
He drew attention to the dealers for their concentration so that any quarter cannot increase the prices of agriculture items by creating an artificial crisis.
Amir Hossain Amu also assured that the logical demands of the dealers will be fulfilled by discussing those at the inter-ministerial level. At the meeting, the dealers placed a nine-point demand for ensuring uninterrupted supply and marketing of fertiliser in the future.
