SC seeks summary of petition against Nizami verdict

The Supreme Court (SC) has sought the summary of the petition filed against the war crimes verdict against
Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha on Tuesday asked the defence counsels to submit the summary withing the next two weeks.
Motiur Rahman Nizami had filed an appeal against the International Crimes
Tribunal’s verdict on November 23 last year.
On October 29, the three-member tribunal unanimously condemned incumbent Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Nizami to death for crimes against humanity, including genocide and the murder of intellectuals, during the Liberation War.
The tribunal sentenced the Jamaat boss, the 1971 commander-in-chief of Al Badr, a secret killing squad of Jamaate -e-Islami, the capital punishment each on four counts of charges of war crimes, terming Al Badr a criminal outfit.
