Staff Reporter :
A section of the Supreme Court lawyers on Monday gathered in a symbolic protest programme after being aggrieved by a High Court order that fined two of the lawyers of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) worth Tk 200 in a case.
In the programme the aggrieved Supreme Court lawyers deposited Tk 1 per head in a paper box to complete Tk 200, an amount that was fined by the court.
Following a writ petition, the HC bench of Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore and Justice Mohammad Ullah fined two Supreme Court lawyers, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon and Advocate Ishrat Hasan Tk 200. But the court decision could not make happy the young lawyers of the SCBA and they held the symbolic protest.
Early in the morning on Monday, the young lawyers kept a box before the room of the SCBA President and they deposited Tk 1 per head for completing Tk 200, the fined amount.
The court also issued a contempt of court rule against the two lawyers for allegedly posting derogatory comments about the judiciary on their face-book accounts.
In the rule, the court wanted to know from the respondents to explain as to why the contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them.
At the same time, the HC summoned Sayedul Hoque Suman and Ishrat Hasan and asked them to appear before it on November 16 to place their explanations on this issue.
