Size of economy growing: Seminar: Save poultry production

Participating in a seminar, the speakers on Sunday said, safe poultry production in Bangladesh is on progress. They also said, it’s a matter of pride that Bangladesh is now producing antibiotic growth promoter (AGP) free poultry feed. Bangladesh has shown success in stopping AGP in poultry feed when the highest poultry producing countries like- Brazil, USA and China are not able to stop this till now.
They said, the size of Bangladesh economy is increasing day by day. So, the poultry industry has to increase egg & chicken production.
They proposed to the government to allow the local companies to produce vaccines and to bring the backyard poultry industries under vaccination coverage. They think, formulation of a policy is urgent to use antibiotic in poultry feed.
The speakers delivered their speeches on the last day of two-day seminar held under the banner of “Food and Environment Safety in Commercial Poultry Production” in a hotel in the city. World Poultry Science Association, Bangladesh Branch (WPSA-BB) arranged this seminar.

Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) Mashiur Rahman presided over the Seminar and Chairman of Bangladesh Association of Food Safety (BAFS) Md Rafuqul Islam conducted it. Delegates from Belgium, Germany and India also participated in the seminar.
Minister Narayon Chandra said, “Food security and safe food are complementary to each other. We have to keep our food safe anyway.”
 “Almost all the chicken and eggs in our country come from poultry industry. Many people are involved with this industry. We have to give importance to this sector so that they can sustain,” the Minister said.
 “Legal actions will be taken against those who are importing antibiotic growth promoter violating the law,” he said. Shamsul Arefin Khaled, President, World Poultry Science Association, Bangladesh Branch, said, the number of population is increasing day by day and at the same ratio cultivating land is decreasing. So, it’s a big challenge to arrange safe food for increasing people.”
 “Poultry sector is contributing significantly in the economy of the country. About 6 million people are working directly or indirectly in this sector. Empowerment of women has been enacted in the rural areas,” he added.
FAO Consultant Shah Munir said, the poultry businessmen are hostage to the middlemen. So, it is necessary to establish linkage with production and marketing.
Dr Lalita Bhattacharya, Dr Nitish Debnath, Pro-VC of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Professor Dr Md Jasimuddin and WAPSA-BB Secretary Mahbub Hasan also delivered their speeches in the seminar.
Professor Dr Emdadul Haque Chowdhury, Professor Dr Priyo Mohan Das and Dr S D Chowdhury of Bangladesh Agricultural University and Professor Dr Syed Saem Uddin Ahmed of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University submitted papers on the first day of the seminar.
