Expressing solidarity with the students of Jahangirnagar University (JU), students of South Asian University (SAU) placed four-point demand, including dropping the police case and all the charges brought against the JU students.
“We’re deeply concerned about the depressing situation that has been developing since May 26 on the Jahangirnagar University campus,” said the New Delhi-based university students from all the Saarc countries.
They demanded safety measures on Dhaka-Aricha highway, stopping police brutality inside the campus and punishing those who attacked the students and reopening the student dormitories and resuming the classes immediately. In solidarity with the students of Jahangirnagar University, the SAU students and teachers formed a human chain on Friday the university campus.
“We believe the students deserve respect and support from and within the educational institutions,” said the statement UNB received on Saturday through email and fax.
The students should have the right to express themselves and the expression should be addressed in a just and unbiased way by the authorities, they said.
“As the first female VC of Bangladesh we expect that she should take necessary action against the attackers and those who engaged in provoking the attack on students without any partisanship,” the statement said.
