Despite being a new film, Satta was released at fewer theatres than the-relatively-old film from Kolkata, Haripada Bandwala
Shakib Khan and Paoli Dam starrer Satta was released on Friday in 48 theatres all over the country, while Tollywood’s Ankush Hazra and Nusrat Jahan starrer Haripada Bandwala, which was released in Bangladesh on the same day under the SAFTA agreement, ended up on the screens of 79 theatres nationwide.
Hasibur Reza Kallol’s social-drama film Satta is an adaptation of Sohani Alam’s novel Maa, who is also the producer of the film. According to the director, Satta revolves around the stories of our society. The shooting of the film took more than two and half years to be completed. Kallol also promised that a different Shakib Khan will be seen in his film.
On the other hand, Haripada Bandwala is a 2016 romantic comedy film, directed by Pathikrit Basu and produced by Shrikant Mohta, and Mahendra Soni under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films. Featuring Ankush Hazra and Nusrat Jahan in the lead roles, the film is a remake of 2014 Punjabi comedy Disco Singh, which itself was loosely based on a Bollywood film, Do Knot Disturb. Interestingly, this film from 2009 was a remake of the 2006 French film, La Doublure (The Valet).
Despite being a new film, Satta was released at fewer theatres than the-relatively-old film from Kolkata, Haripada Bandwala. This instantly became a matter of dispute on various social media platforms. Many local film audiences expressed their frustrations on social media.
This is the first time that the films of two Tollywood actresses are simultaneously being released in Bangladesh on the same day. This might end up creating intense competition between the two films.
