In view of the soaring trend of prices of some essentials including coarse rice, onion and potatoes across the country including Chandpur, DC Md Mazedur Rahman Khan has taken up a good initiative by opening ‘Sotota Store’ again in front of his (DC) office building as it was opened for the benefit of the poor and middle class people during the crises period of Corona .
The buyers usually buy things of their choice at a cheaper rate here and they put the price money into a cash box as there is no shopkeeper in the shop.
Some volunteers are rendering service for smoothly running the shop, said volunteers Omar Faruq and Amin Mia.
On Thursday, ADC Gen Abdullah Al Mahmud Zaman opened it again for the benefit of the common people. Speaking on the occasion, he said, ”It will immensely mitigate the sufferings of the common people who are hit hard following price hike of potatoes, eggs, coarse rice, lentil, onion, edible oil, salt, and also mouth masks”. Then he sold some items to a few buyers.
On hearing about the Sotota Store, many commoners including housewives are seen to buy the essentials at a cheaper rate from 9 am till 5 pm. Executive Magistrate Mehedi Hasan Manik, Imran Mahmud Dalim and a few volunteers and some buyers were present at that time.
