The Sammilito Sangskritik Jote (SSJ), an alliance of the country’s leading pro-independence cultural bodies, on Saturday called for building national unity to resist secret killings and murders of the members of the minority communities.
The call came from a human-chain programme organised by SSJ in front of the National Museum at Shahbag in the city.
The speakers at the programme also underscored the need for participation of the religious leaders along with people from all strata to stop once and for all the secret killings.
They said no religion in the world supports secret killings and the culprits have been carrying out secret killings across the country in their bid to take revenge of the war crimes trial.
Expressing concern over continuation of secret killings throughout the country, cultural personality Ramendu Mazumdar said, “People irrespective of religious beliefs and opinions should resist those who have been carrying out horrendous killings in the name of religion. Mass awareness and consciousness should be enhanced to resist secret killings. Political and religious leaders should come forward for the purpose.”
SSJ president Golam Kuddus said the secret killings have been carried out across the country to take revenge of the war crimes trial and to tarnish the country’s image abroad.
“All in the society including the political and religious leaders should be vocal against the continuous repression on the members of the minority communities. The forces loyal to the war of liberation should be united to build resistance against such killings,” he added.
