Sanghu bridge opens to vehicular traffic

Traffic has resumed over newly constructed Shangu Bridge on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar National Highway at Dohazari in Chandnaish. After the road marking, the bridge was initially opened for traffic from 11 am on Tuesday. Earlier, the work of three lanes including the connecting road of the bridge was completed. Meanwhile, after the newly constructed three-lane Sangu Bridge was opened for traffic, the work of removing the old bridge has also started.
According to project sources, the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar National Highway will be a six-lane expressway. In keeping with that design, four six-lane bridges, including the Dohazari Sanghu Bridge on the highway, are being constructed.
Zulfiqar Ahmed, project director of the Cross Border Road Network Improvement Project, told the media that four six-lane bridges are being constructed on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar National Highway at a cost of Tk 751 crore. These are the 236 m long Dohazari Sangu Bridge, the 321.45 m long Chakria Matamuhuri Bridge, the 60.15 m long Mazar Point Bridge over the Barumati canal in Chandnaish and the 60 m long Indrapool Bridge in Patiya. The width of each bridge is 31.20 meters.
