Engine fault: Sandwip- bound steamer stranded in sea, 700 passengers safely rescued

A passenger steamer belong to Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation(BIWTC) named MV Kajol became out of order on her voyage to Sandwip island on Sunday.
 The steamer was carrying about 700 passengers from Sandwip Guptachara Ghat under Sandwip thana .
The steamer left Guptachara ghat of Sandwip on the way to Chittagong at about 2 pm and went outof order after passing some nautical miles in the Bay , the steamer stranded at Bansbaria point , one kilometer off to Kumiraghat of Sitakunda upazila coast due technical fault in the engine.
 Later, all the passengers on board was rescued by the IWTC through engine boats safely.
Deputy General Manager of BIWTC Nasir Mohammad Chowdhury told that all the passengers on board was safely rescued by them and the steamer Kajol anchored in the Bay waiting for restarting the engine .
 The passengers were rescued from the steamer at about 5.30 pm on Sunday , sources said.
